2018 BLIA General Conference General Guidelines

  1. Activities:

General Conference/ 4th Meeting of the Sixth Board of Directors Meeting/ Re-election of the Sixth Board of Directors/ Certification for Elder Advisors Committees/ Handing Over Ceremony for Former and New Chapter Presidents/ Certification for BLIA Elder Advisors/ Certification and Promotion for BLIA Lay Dharma Lecturers/ Recognition of Outstanding Chapters/Night of Buddha’s Light.

Ex-officio Delegates: BLIA World Headquarters Elders, Directors, Committee Directors, Deputy Committee Directors, Lay Dharma Lecturers/Teachers, Chapter Elder Advisors, and Chapter Presidents. R participate in every conference activity

Delegates: 1.     Five delegates per national/regional chapter, with one additional delegate per 100 members, up to a maximum of two hundred (200) delegates. All delegates must have a valid identification card issued by BLIA World Headquarters.

2.     Chapter Monastic Advisors

R participate in every conference activity

R right to vote

R election

Observers: Officers and members of BLIA chapters and subchapters, but not to exceed ten (10) observers per chapter. R participate in every conference activity

Spectators: Unlimited number.  Every spectator will receive a conference souvenir. Participate in EITHER ONE of the two activities:

□ Night of Buddha’s Light

 

  1. Fees:

  1. Ex-officio Delegates, Delegates, and Observers:
    • USD$300.00 if registered and paid in full by July 31, 2018
    • USD$350.00 if registered and paid in full during August 1~31, 2018
    • USD$400.00 if registered and paid in full on and after September 1, 2018

Remark: Accommodation during the conference (6 days and 4 nights) is included in the above fee.

2. Spectators:  USD$100.00 per person

3. For any BLIA General Conference participants who plan to arrive earlier or leave later and require accommodation (own expense), please register with the organizer’s liaison office in advance for ease of arrangements.

  3. Flight information: For ease of coordinating transportation, all chapters must provide flight schedule online once flights are confirmed.

Check-in:

  1. Time: October 4, 2:00 to 7:00 PM
  2. Place: Monastery Services Center Fo Guang Shan, Kaohsiung, Taiwan
  3. How to check in: Swipe the BLIA membership card. Please wear your membership card to check in (those holding old membership cards, please re-register for a new card).

Additional Notes:

  1. Please refer to Attachments II~V for detailed information and appropriate forms on the Application of Outstanding Chapter, Certification and Promotion for BLIA Lay Dharma Lecturers, Certification for Elder Advisors Committees, Certification for BLIA Elder Advisors and Chapter Work Reports.
  2. An exhibition area will be provided by the organizing committee for headquarters and regional chapters to display their achievements and activities. There will be exhibits from five regions of the world: Asia, America, Europe, Africa, and Oceania and participation is most welcome. Please refer to Attachment VI for detailed information and registration form.
  3. “Night of Buddha’s Light” will be held during the conference for enhancing BLIA fellowship. Performances of national or regional culture by conference participants are welcome. Please refer to Attachment VII for detailed information and registration form.
  4. A special issue of BLIA Conference commemorative publications will be published as a gesture of fellowship. Individual and group sponsorships are welcome and appreciated by the organizing committee. Please refer to Attachment X for detailed information and sponsorship form.
  5. Chapters which elected new presidents in 2017 who assume the new position as presidents in 2018 must participate in the Handing-over Ceremony for Presidents. Please carry your own Chapter flag and President sash.
  6. Every participating headquarters/chapter must carry its own BLIA flag and every participant must abide by the BLIA dress code (all participants must wear the BLIA uniform). During the opening ceremony, delegates are encouraged to wave their national flags and to dress in costumes that are representative of their countries or cultural heritage to enhance the diversity of BLIA.
